• Celebrate Recovery – Meets every Wednesday night, 6:30 p.m., 3rd Floor. Join Us!  Christ-centered recovery ministry, from any hurts, habits, or hang-ups.
• Homeless Outreach - Meet at church every 4th Saturday night, 6:00 p.m., and travel downtown together for ministry with homeless persons.  See brochure in Lobby.

• Mexico (Matamoros) :: Annual after-Christmas trip, December 26-January 1.  Work with Focus on Missions, Steve Smith, doing various projects and eye clinic.  Visit www.focusonmissions.org and click on “Christmas Trip 2010″ for registration info and form.  Price $555 plus @$40 for meals and tips.

Working on other trip possibilities for 2011 now.  Possible trips next year include Canada, El Salvador, Mexico, South Africa and more . . . watch this space . . .

With the problems young people face today, Team Impact has taken seriously the task of reaching America’s youth with a timely message through their highly acclaimed school assemblies. Visiting nearly 1,000 schools each year, this group has the unique opportunity to speak to hundreds of thousands of students about the dangers of drugs, alcohol and the importance of academic excellence.

In addition, Team Impact appears regularly on television programs including their own weekly show where millions of people around the world are able to see their extraordinary demonstrations and hear their inspirational message. “We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their creator with certain inalienable rights, that among these are life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness.”

Thus begins the declaration of independence, which we celebrate this month. We celebrate the freedoms with which God has blessed this great nation of ours. We celebrate the freedom that is given to us from God. Even though we understand that our freedom and independence are build upon God, there are many threats to our freedom in our country today. Threats such as terrorism and nuclear weapons are great, but there is a greater threat than these to our country. A 1949 Life magazine editorial says it best: The greatest threat to civilization is godlessness. When we eliminate God from who we are as a country and how we are governed, we have in essence asked God to leave us alone.

So, if godlessness is the greatest threat to our country today, what does godlessness look like? Godlessness is what the church at Ephesus was guilty of: “Yet I hold this against you: you have forsaken your first love. Remember the height from which you have fallen! Repent and do the things you did at first.” (Revelation 2:4-5)

Godlessness is:

• Creating substitutes for God
• Becoming more self-centered and less Christ-centered
• Rejecting the Bible as absolute truth
• Justifying sin
• Compromising biblical standards so as not to offend those who do no know Christ

And when godlessness has completed its task and fully persuaded a people to no longer honor or worship God, then this can be said of that people: “After that whole generation had been gathered to their fathers, another generation grew up, who knew neither the Lord nor what he had done for Israel.” (Judges 2:10).

I love my country! I love my freedom! Especially the freedom to worship the one true God. As you consider your freedom to worship the one true God this July fourth, make sure you are leading your family to worship and honor Him as well.

When we first meet someone, our willingness to exchange names means that we would like the other person to know us – to know who we are. Names are a way people relate to us and identify us. That is also true in the different names of God.

In the Bible, God reveals Himself to His chosen people through various names or titles. These names served to identify and describe God, but they also exhorted God’s people to holy living, gave them hope, reminded them of their heritage and challenged them to continue their spiritual journeys.

Beginning July 5 we are going to take a look at these names and what God reveals about Himself through them.

Thank you FBC for your hospitality, love, kindness, prayers and support during out transition. We are finally here together as a family and loving very much our new church family and community.

As we begin this journey together, I am so excited about the activity of God that I see around us and the great privilege we haver to join Him in His work. I truly believe FBC is on the threshold of something awesome, and I am so excited about experiencing that with you. I love Isaiah’s words from Isaiah 40 and how they speak to what is possible with God:

Do you not know? Have you not heard? The LORD is the everlasting God, the Creator of the ends of the earth. He will not grow tired or weary, and his understanding no one can fathom. He gives strength to the weary and increases the power of the weak. Even youths grow tired and weary, and young men stumble and fall; but those who hope in the LORD will renew their strength. They will soar on wings like eagles; they will run and not grow weary; they will walk and not be faint (40:28-31).

We are teaming up with Focus on Missions (www.focusonmissions.com) again and heading to Matamoros, Mexico on March 21st – 28th. The cost, at only $350, is a steal for getting missions experience in another country. This cost will cover everything (except the meals going down and coming back), including: transportation for all 7 days, hotel rooms, all meals in Mexico, supplies, and t-shirts. All participants will need a U.S. passport to cross the border, and are encouraged to apply for one ASAP if they do not already have one.

This trip is for all students currently in 8th grade and above (6th-7th graders may attend if a parent/guardian accompanies them) , and all adults wishing to serve alongside the student ministry staff and experience missions first hand. We will be active in the community/schools teaching them basic English and getting one on one interaction with the people. At the end of this we will have a community wide event in which we offer food, have a blast with games, and share the gospel using the local pastors Focus on Missions teams up with. This will be the main priority while we are there, but we are also trying to line up possible small construction projects, a visit to the children’s home, an outreach to help the people who live in the city dump, and much more.
